Beatriz was born in Baltimore and spent her childhood in neighborhoods such as Irvington, Pigtown, and Catonsville. She majored in Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She completed her Bachelors degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where she also obtained a Masters in Geography and Environmental Science. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences at Johns Hopkins University.

Past research topics have included urban mosquito populations, urban forest tree and vegetation diversity, urban soil quality, urban forest bird diversity, and urban forest patch dynamics.

Beatriz is committed to doing research in the community, with the community, and for the community. She has a deep love for Baltimore and the resilient and creative residents of this amazing city. She strives to build relationships so that her science can be communicated to the people affected by it. She continues to work with local organizations such as Thread, Baltimore Greenspace, and the Baltimore Ecosystem Study.

Beatriz is also a mother of 2 children and volunteers with Canine Humane Network.
